Forgiveness Series 2

The Destructive Nature of Unforgiveness

The weight of unforgiveness is simply too heavy to carry on your own. We were never designed to thrive with the anguish of the past residing on our shoulders. We were meant to forgive and move on. As human beings, we do not have the ability to forget a wrong…only God can do that. But we can make the choice to forgive and move on to a healthy and happy future.

Another good reason to forgive… because we cannot be set free to move on to a bright and healthy tomorrow until we let the pain of yesterday go. God has great things in store for us (Jeremiah 29:11), but if we are busy clinging to the pain of the past, we will miss out on the joy of tomorrow.

If you do not forgive those who have hurt you, they own you. Did you hear that? Picture yourself in a jail cell and throw away the key. This is where you have voluntarily placed yourself if you allow your enemy to control you through your own lack of forgiveness. But the moment you make the conscious decision to forgive, the doors of your self-imposed prison will swing open wide and you will be set free. For “…whom the Son sets free, is free indeed (John 8:36).”

We are most like God when we forgive. Forgiveness is a full pardon. It’s a fresh start. It’s another chance. It’s a new beginning. It’s the canceling of a debt. It’s not burying the hatchet with the handle up so you can grab it, just in case.

Forgiveness is also essential for your emotional healing! It’s not optional! Forgiveness is, first, an act of your will. In an act of courageous faith, forgive those who have offended you…then watch God go to work in your defense. Watch how everything they put their hands to crumbles, and everything you put your hand to is blessed.

Again I will advocate that you make that call!

Forgiveness Series

Continuous Circle of Forgiveness

Forgiveness is not something you earn for years of service after you come to Christ. Forgiveness is not infinite works. Forgiveness is by the grace of God. Forgiveness is not a prize. It’s a blessing that is received the instant you accept Jesus as your Savior. Forgiveness is not a matter of hope; it’s a matter of fact. Christ paid the debt for your sins at the cross. Your sins were thus blotted out, never to be remembered against you. The blood of the cross has cleansed you. You are whiter than snow, kings and priests, royalty unto God.

Forgiveness is a continuous act. “Father, forgive us as we forgive those who transgress against us.” When you forgive me and I forgive you, it is a continuous circle of forgiveness, manifesting God’s love and unity in the church. The moment that we stop being a forgiving church is the moment the Holy Spirit walks out the door and says, “I can’t stay here.”

“God forgave them but they wouldn’t forgive a soul, not even the people that sat in the church pews with them,” will be written on the tombstone of a lot of church members. Do you know why people in the church don’t tell other people in the church their problems? Because they don’t want their secrets to be all over town by dark. That’s a fact…and that’s a shame.

Forgiveness is freedom from the past. When you refuse to forgive another for any reason, it corrupts your life. You might hear the word “corruption,” but it really doesn’t register. Paul writes in Galatians about corruption. “Be not deceived. God is not mocked. For whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh, shall from the flesh, reap corruption (Galatians 6:7-8).”

Who are you that you would not forgive another, considering that God has forgiven you? Your unforgiving spirit has tied the corpse of that person that you resent to your back. The moment you cut that thing loose, you will experience joy, peace, happiness, and contentment beyond your imagination. The power of God and the anointing of the Holy Spirit will fill your house. Run to the place of forgiveness! Forgive totally! And do it today.

May the Lord bless you and may the Lord keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you, giving you His peace. May you be set free from your yesterday, free to become the person God wants you to become
